Friday’s Child
Friday, June 29th, 2007I’ve nearly completed my second week of classes. So far so good. I’m taking two guided studies, a critical seminar, and a lecture class called “Theory In Contemporary Art Since 1985.” The theory class requires a lot of reading and writing, which is good. It is also a lot of material that I’ve studied and read before, which is not so good. The instructor is this super-knowledgable theorist with a background in art history that discusses at great length the acadmic riff between art theory and art history, and he’s certain to bring new levels of understanding to material with which I’m already somewhat familiar, which is really good.
Saturday I have already been scheduled to present work for my first critique in the seminar class. I hardly have been to the studio yet, and feel really underprepared. I have a couple shitty in-progress pieces, and one piece that will be (hopefully) finished by tomorrow. But as far as how to display them in a formal way, or how to present them to get helpful feedback, I’m kind of frustrated. It’s too soon. Here is the one piece that I’m currently working on and hope to have completed by tomorrow:
