Speaking of Specs, and Scripts, and Spec Scripts…
Friday, August 17th, 20071. I’m brushing up on the art of spec scripting by reading old entries of Jane Espenson’s blog. Jane is a brilliant television writer, responsible for some of the most memorable episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Her blog at www.janeespenson.com discusses tips and strategies for spec scriptwriting. And even for those who have little or no interest in the business of television, Jane’s witty writing style is always fun to read, even when she’s just describing her lunch. Which, in fact, she does daily.
2. Now that I’m more comfortable with the screenplay format, I’m pulling all of my old notes together and fleshing out my Stuart & Weston screenplay. I’ve been surprised at how much I’ve already written, and just piecing scenes together has already culminated in over 55 pages, which is well over half of the anticipated screenplay. I expect to finish a solid first draft in a matter of days.
3. I’m looking for another spec script to write, something more current and practical than my previous practice spec. And now that I don’t have a television is the time in my life that I could actually use a television. I don’t, however, miss TV one bit. I find that I write a lot more without one. And I’d like to have a decent scriptwriter’s portfolio started by December.
