Hey Kids, It’s Safe Sex Sam!

Safe Sex Sam

Borrowing a character from my friend Jonathan Abarquez, I’ve composed another simple, quick animation.

Obviously my line quality needs a lot of practice, and I need to figure out a more effective way to line up the frames (so he’s not jumpy).  Fortunately in toying around with this little sample, I can experiment with ways to solve these problems in the future.  All in all, not bad for a two-hour lesson in Flash.

In case you cannot tell, Sam is a little man made out of condoms.  Jon is playing with the idea of introducing the conversation of sexual responsibility to children, as well as establishing the notion of safe sex as a commodifiable icon.  By giving such a taboo topic a cartoon form, it becomes socially palatable and even celebrated as something positive and desirable.  Very clever stuff.

Jon’s current work for his senior show involves an overwhelming amount of string.   Can’t wait to see what it is!

Suddenly, I’m starting to see the other side of the coin on that whole “appropriation/copyright violation” debate. Good thing I’m not out to make that character a marketable product.

Interesting interpritation on that little character, too. Remind me to talk to you about the evolution of the base interest of otaku culture next time you e-mail me, as it relates.

    Jason,

I laughed at your little animation — I say little, although I know that doing just that takes a lot of trouble.

Safe sex, just as safe anything else, has to be part of a lifeview that one finds satisfying and fulfilling and which is composed of relationships that are mutually rewarding. Wow, that leaves anyone who is promoting good life practices a very big challenge.

Anyone who makes the components common and everyday will be contributing to this better world.

    Robert

    Hi Sherri,

Thank you - I’m glad you like the animation. It’s totally Jon Abarquez’s creation though. You should check out his website at www.zeekslider.blogspot.com. You might like to see some of the other work he is doing as he nears the end of his college studies.

I must admit that I never would have guessed you have children. No offense. Based on the unconventional spirit of your previous comments, you don’t strike me as the typical ‘mom’ type.

    Jason

Dont worry I am not offended but no Im not your typical mom. I like sex. How do you think I ended up with three kids? lol really. I realized that life is too short to be a prude.
